There is a word I’m having trouble thinking of which is specifically for the kind of people who stubbornly keep believing things after ample evidence emerges to indicate their belief is false. What’s the word? It’s kind of like when someone spends years making decisions on an ideological basis that is consistently undermined by clearly visible data, so much data that someone finally wins a nobel prize for disproving it? fuck, I just can’t think of that word. Anyway, I can think of a couple words to describe efficient market hypothesis: fucking wack.
What has been less clear is whether neat environments can produce good habits even in those who aren’t necessarily innately conscientious. To find out, researchers at the University of Minnesota conducted a series of experiments, the results of which were published online last month in Psychological Science. In the first experiment, they randomly assigned a group of college-age students to spend time in adjacent office spaces, one of which was exquisitely neat, the other wildly cluttered with papers and other work-related detritus. The students spent their time filling out questionnaires unrelated to the study. After 10 minutes, they were told they could leave and were offered an apple or a chocolate bar as they exited. Those students who sat in the orderly office were twice as likely to choose the apple than those who sat amid the mess.
A second experiment, however, found that working in chaos has its advantages, too. In this one, college students were placed in a messy or a neat office and asked to dream up new uses for Ping-Pong balls. Those in messy spaces generated ideas that were significantly more creative, according to two independent judges, than those plugging away in offices where stacks of papers and other objects were neatly aligned.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is the best cartoon ever made (the movie is one of the worst movies ever made). If you haven’t seen the cartoon you will be richly rewarded by watching all of it. The sequel, Legend of Korra is equally amazing but…not complete. Sadly for me, I broke my rule about not watching shows until they over and now I am trapped in the despair between Legend of Korra seasons. The trailer for the new season is out, and soothes my pain ever so slightly.

This is a pretty amazing sci-fi action mini. Interesting first person perspective for this format. I guess it’s actually a music video?!? but it really seems more like a short movie with consistently playing music.
This is like RSAnimate but shorter (duh) and artsier.
This is a short video on the One Point Perspective in Stanley Kubrick’s films. I’m not a film nerd so I’m not exactly sure what’s up here. I’ve heard that it’s not practically accepted for films to be made in one point but Kubrick did anyway and it’s obviously awesome. My friend sent me this video a few months ago and it’s radically changed the way I view media.
here’s the full story. I was surprised that dude only had his hand messed up and wasn’t just eaten whole. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0kzdu_wTM0&feature=relmfu
This is an amazing video transition between Justice – D.A.N.C.E. and JayZ – On To the Next One. You should definitely watch this even if you don’t like the music. Both videos are masterful in their own rite but the mashup is perfectly done. If you just want to see that start at about 1:30.
I have to wonder if the the word WHITE being written in disney font is a subtle nod to Walt Disney favoring Hitler during WWII. See also The 9 Most Racist Disney Characters on Cracked. Speaking of racist there’s a line in there about JayZ switching from Cristal to Ace of Spades champaign because the owner was racist. You can scope out the explanation on rapgenius – on to the next one
