In Lincoln fetish news, I am deeply disappointed that my attempt to engage in an open relationship with john wilkes booth on facebook has FAILED.

Coachella update [phone blogging]

For reasons too compliccated to explain I ended up with a free all access pass to coachella. Also by the grace of the universe I am camped right next to my good friend matt ganuxcho (which is not a horrible spelling of his name).

This blog post is mostly to mention that Wanda and I ziptied him into his tent while he was sleeping. Well see how he reacts in themorning.

- coachella is pretty much the ultra corporate version of burning man. Every single piece of art was at bm last year but better and more dangerous.

- I just heard one of the best sound systems I’ve ever heard.

Anyway reduced blogging as I’m having a blast. San francisco next week for alchemy

Quick News From the EFF

In a stunning reversal, the Obama Administration has decided to continue the cover-up of the Bush Administration’s warrantless wiretapping program. EFF has been fighting to hold the government and telcos accountable for this illegal surveillance since 2005. Now, the Obama Administration is asking a court to throw out our latest lawsuit challenging the NSA’s dragnet spying, this one against the government directly. This attempt to shield the surveillance program from court scrutiny is a stark reminder that eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, no matter who is sitting in the Oval Office.

Please help EFF in the ongoing fight for accountability:

http://secure.eff.org/wiretapping

The Obama Administration is arguing that the wiretapping program is a “state secret” and that the courts are barred from ever judging its legality. Even worse, they’re arguing that under the PATRIOT Act, the United States government possesses complete “sovereign immunity” against lawsuits for spying that violates federal privacy laws. It’s a shocking argument that even the Bush Administration never made.

It List / Shit List [Hater's Gotta Hate]

The It List

+ My Immune System (right up top, last sunday I contracted some serious tropical disease bullshit. And I mean serious like a heart attack, I haven’t been this sick since Tsar Nich made me taste that sketchy ass macaroni salad in tanzania. My immune system was a total champ about it though. Monday it was all toothaches, headaches, earaches, shaking and sweats. Tuesday was all about shooting greenies and going about my business as normal)

+ Jon Stewart, who is implicitly on every single it list even if I don’t explicitly mention his name. Check this baracknophia clip

The Shit List

- falling out of your chair when making it list/shit lists

- People who seriously think that Obama is responsible for the economic crisis. Initially I thought these people were just being smartasses (like whenever anyone talks about the president I’m all “That’s exactly what a muslim would say.”) but these people are serious. Whoa, and I don’t even know what to say to them.

- Obama like whaaat? we don’t need to curb illegal spying.

- Everything that happened to me between waking up and about 9pm today.

- I’m sure there’s some other stuff but I feel rosy right now (because of kristins playlists and the beer I traded for chocolate at the new belgium brewery).

The Puck Speaks!

Puck left a good comment on my Administrivia post from yesterday, I’m going to republish it here for the rss heads and the ones that don’t read comments*.

It’s all about why you do what you do. If you want to write professionally then you have to try to get paid, because people are more than willing to just take your work for free. If you are doing a personal blog or a hobbiest, then no, I don’t think you need to get paid.

thePuckWrites is a pro blog aimed at helping starting writers get going and promote themselves in new media, so of course there I advise to get paid, but Kafka didn’t get paid, he though his stuff was awful, and he was a real writer. What I am trying to do is fight the stigma against demanding payment for creative work…people just getting started get screwed and I am trying to help people avoid that. I am not trying to make a general claim that no writer who is not getting paid is “really” a writer…I am trying to teach starting writers to pursue their professional work in a professional way.

Besides, you don’t want to learn about this stuff from me…I am just whoring my skills to the highest bidder while I write my real stuff and try to get that published. The rest of this is just waiting tables for writers.

Neal Alan Jansens has a blog called The Puck Writes and he’s just as delightfully informed on twitter and every other goddamn piece of social media that exists too. We met by getting into a pretty heated argument on a bus back in 02 or 03 (which I won, fyi) and we’ve been making a habit of it ever since.

*which is a damn hella ass shame because I think this blog gets a lot of really good comments.
