Blog Purgatory

Okay, so I told myself that I wasn’t going to write any updates for the blog (blogging) until I did a massive overhaul of the design and software features. Essentially: Actually implement the stuff that I always complain about other blogs not having.

Instead of that I just spent the last four days setting up a large fire art installation at Electric Daisy Carnival, the biggest festival in north america (there were riots). I enjoyed too many of the complimentary vodka/energy drinks in the vip cabana at Electric Daisy Carnival, leaving me with an uncharacteristically lucid hang over. (it was mild, more of a lean over really)

I was going to change my religion on facebook to “information wants to be free” but I thought that some people would misinterpret that in a provocative way.

Quick Reflections on Rule of Law

So the core problem with President Bush authorizing torture is that it’s an action predicated on the notion that the president gets to dictate the law. When President Obama choose not to prosecute anyone in the Bush administration for authorizing torture he was engaged in the same flawed dictation of what is and isn’t legal.

I’ve been ranting about this for months and the first response is always about political capital. Without engaging that argument I just want to point out that it’s an implicit acknowledgment of a government ruled not by law of justice but instead by favoritism, opportunity, and power brokerage. Such governments will always be dysfunctional and corrupt.

I want to stress that this is not about torture but instead about the framework in which we allow our leaders to act.

Environment Mag Recognizes Symbiosis Gathering as Serious Green Festee

10. Symbiosis Gathering (Northern California, September 17-21, www.symbiosisgathering.com). The Symbiosis Gathering’s goal is to “create an experience that is transformative and inspiring, based in a deep respect for our community and environment.” It’s not only a music festival but an art and wellness festival as well. Working with EcoGatherings, a green event organizer, Symbiosis has been able to stay environmentally friendly by reducing waste and integrating environmental education into all their events. They have a “leave no trace” visitor policy and recycling and public transportation systems set up. Even their promotions use non-toxic ink and tree-free or recycled paper.

Post Shopping Euphoria

I’m pretty excited… and who wouldn’t be if they had just ordered an ex-masturbator shirt from Passion 4 Christ Ministries!!!!

They are only 10$. At a price like that, who could rationally say no? (17.31 including shipping) I think this shirt is going to get some public reactions. If you think you have the power to stop sinning against God and your own immortal soul, bravely follow this link.

Dew Adorns the Cloven Hoof

a buddy of mine cooked up this playlist called Dew Adorns the Cloven Hoof. He says the following

“I warned I would do it and now it’s here – a compilation of underground
’70s psychedelic folk just in time for spring. Some of you may love it,
some may run screaming, but I can’t think of a better soundtrack for
lazy dreaming in the misty morning. Give it a shot!”

I am particularly fond of One Grain of Sand by Wizz Jones

I think a lot of rock music is guitardedly boring with simplistic
chord progressions and stupid lyrics. My view is that a lot of this
stuff would be good for a lazy afternoon or a late thursday night.

ps he actually made it before spring.

Quick Thoughts: Making It

A daft englishman recently crashed into a tree while he was jogging + twittering. The fact that it’s being hailed as historic is as disappointingly droll as the event itself {but me commenting on it not being a noteworthy event implicitly makes it noteworthy. CURSES! Foiled by media theory AGAIN!!}. Somewhere I saw him making comments about how this is his 15 minutes of fame or whatever

Probably 9 times out of 10 I want to say to people:

Don’t let this be your 15 minutes of fame.

Noah is in Gawker!! (Kind Of) [Today in Jurisprudence]

J.D. Salinger Emerges from His Hidy-Hole to Sue Over Catcher in the Rye Rip-Off

J.D. Salinger, now 90 years old and still living in seclusion in New Hampshire, is suing the author and publisher of a “sequel” to Catcher in the Rye, seeking to prevent its publication later this year. 60 Years Later, by a mysterious guy living in Sweden (!) named John David California, imagines Holden Caufield as a 76-year-old escapee from a retirement home wandering the streets of New York City. Salinger’s lawyers argue that “the sequel is not a parody and it does not comment upon or criticise the original. It is a ripoff pure and simple.”

woohoo for my buddy noah who is working for the judge that will see this very interesting case. I’m actually not sure which way I think it will turn out. This falls under the category of Fan Fiction afaik which is cool so long as it’s not for sale, but there is an issue around Salinger failing to exercise his franchise. EXCITING!!!
