Blog Purgatory (pt 4) [Cheating at Blog Purgatory]
okay, I have to say this because it has come up like 10 times in the last month and I’m just trying to save myself time in the future.
Any grad school examination is not a test of your innate intelligence, it is a test of your ability to take tests. Therefore, when taking a test that will play a very large role in the rest of your life…study for it. The GRE, the LSAT, the GMAT etc are all SOLVED PROBLEMS. If you are going to pay for a tutor, which you should, pay for someone who will teach you score very well.
additionally, if you have to do something complex soon, probably the biggest, dumbest waste of time is try to intuit how to do it from scratch rather than just asking someone who is already exceptional. A lot of people don’t ask for help with things because they are afraid other people will think they are dumb. It turns out that not asking for help is actually what makes you dumb! This is yet another example of Being afraid of something actually making it come true.

Blogging Purgatory (pt3)
So yeah, I’ve been slacking on the blogging but I can assure you, it’s not because I don’t want to. Dear reader, this hurts me a lot more than it hurts you.
But why haven’t I been blogging?
Well I spent all day at the Orielly #InsideMobile conference, which mostly involved @SidGabriel and I (@nub) hassling people like @fling about how incredibly epic fail it is that the palm pre doesn’t have a gyroscope, accelerometer or compass. What this means is that when people get a pre for christmas they will find out that non-immersive gaming environments are no fun to dev for. Market economics…LOL!! It’s like palm forgot that 2 years passed since 2007! FYI, twitter hash tags are a perfect way to collect the most trivial conference information possible.
Whoa, and speaking of market economics check out this Thorsten Veblin character. He was one of the first economists to not have his head jammed entirely up his own ass. In his book the Theory of the Leisure Class he argued that markets advance not by raw profit maximizing behavior but *also* social factors. Can you believe that? What a crazy guy!

He would know, that is some serious leisure class facial hair. Rather than reading the entire book, why don’t you pull an internet and just skim the wikipedia article? That way when all the hard core political policy people are discussing the foreign service at David’s house you’ll know what the fuck they’re talking about.
