okay so if I say

“bear with me”

or

“it bears noting that George W. Bush is not competent enough to run a dairy queen.”

Maybe it’s just my history as an inveterate punster but I cannot help but think of Bear the animal instead of the unbelievably broad variety other definitions for this word including but not limited to: have, give birth, digest, move, bring forth, take on as one’s own, hold, yield, wear, behave, have rightfully etc. I just think that some of those meanings should be assigned to “bare” just so that things are a little more fair.
