  1. What a pithy little quote. Unfortunately, it just ain’t so. I have been making it work in my life for over 12 years, and so have hundreds of others I know. I’m not saying that it doesn’t involve a fair amount of emotional heavy lifting. Certainly those who make it work are usually the most emotionally intelligent people I know, by necessity. As I’m fond of saying, polyamory ain’t for sissies. But that doesn’t equal “doesn’t actually work in practice” – far from it.

I’d never advocate for replacing monogamy with polyamory, but it would be a better contribution to the discuwssion if you were to resist making assumptions and instead undertake an open-minded search for the truth. Thanks!

  2. this is commonly referred to sampling error. It’s akin to people who proclaim “Spanking is fine, my parents did it to me and I turned out alright” I’m glad that you’ve found a system that suits your needs but I’m obviously referring to a general case and by your own admission you represent a statistical minority within that case. It’s clear that any measure of efficacy would also include the people that poly doesn’t work for.

Let me also add that it’s pretty fucking presumptuous to assume that since I have come to different conclusions than you that I haven’t “undertaken an open-minded search for the truth.”

  3. You may have conducted your own search, but your conclusion is quite final… and therefore wrong. Just because it didn’t work FOR YOU, doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. I know many mono marriages that ended in divorce (I believe the statistic is up to 44% or so now)… so does that mean that mono relationships “don’t work”? Of course not.. .they just don’t work FOR EVERYONE. Trying to put every human being and their relationship styles, emotional well-being and baggage, and long term desires into one nice neat nifty container like “poly doesn’t work”… yeah, good luck with that pal.
